Jim Williams has been appointed to the Capital Region Airport Commission.
Burnett & Williams is thrilled to announce that our very own Jim Williams has been appointed to the Capital Region Airport Commission. The Commission — established in 1975 by an act of the Virginia General Assembly — owns and operates the Richmond International Airport (RIC). Jim joins 13 other Commissioners, all of whom have been appointed by the four Richmond-area jurisdictions. Jim is one of 4 appointees representing Chesterfield County; the balance of Commissioners are from Henrico and Hanover counties, and the City of Richmond.
As long as the Richmond airport has been under the control of the Commission, it has been completely self-sustaining financially, thanks to smart management of funds collected in the form of concession fees from food and gift-shop operators and rental-car companies, terminal building rent, parking, and fees for things such as airport landing and ground transportation. And under the Commission’s management the airport has continued to grow — 4.38 million passengers were served by RIC in 2019, a new annual record!
Jim got his love of flying from his father, a helicopter pilot who served thirty years in the military, including two tours in Viet-Nam flying Huey Gunships and then flew for several Governors of Virginia through the Virginia State Department of Aviation. Jim is a shareholder in the Wingnuts Flying Club, LTD based at Richmond Executive Chesterfield airport and flies any airplane he can, but mainly a Columbia, Diamond Star and Cessna 172 with his favorite passengers, his father and his beloved German Shepherd, Charli.
Jim looks forward to serving on the Commission, and helping continue the group’s fantastic work operating this local gem of an airport that gives all of us living in the Richmond area an excellent close-to-home option when we need to travel by air.
