With the holidays behind us, we wanted to take a moment and wish you a very Happy New Year! It’s important in this season of hustle and bustle to take a moment for yourself to recharge, and we hope that enjoying this yummy recipe helps you do just that. The next time you’re gathered with a few friends, whip up this rich and creamy hot cocoa treat and toast to the season!

The recipe below calls for stove-top directions, but if you’d prefer to keep a big batch warm at your next holiday gathering, you can also make this hot chocolate magic in a slow cooker.

Ingredients:

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup white sugar
1 pinch salt
1/3 cup boiling water
3 1/2 cups milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup half-and-half cream

Toppings:

whipped cream
candy canes (optional)

Directions:
Combine the cocoa, sugar, and pinch of salt in a saucepan. Slowly blend in the boiling water and add the chocolate chips. Bring this mixture to an easy boil while you stir. Simmer and stir for about 2 minutes. Watch the mixture to make sure it doesn’t scorch. Stir in the milk and heat until very hot, but do not boil! Remove from heat and add the vanilla. Divide between 4 mugs (and maybe set one aside for Santa!). Add the half-and-half cream to the mugs of cocoa to cool it to drinking temperature. Top with whipped cream and garnish with a candy cane.  Enjoy!

From our Burnett & Williams family to yours, we wish you a very happy and safe New Year!
