Celebrating 25 Years of Service in Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Celebrating 25 Years of Service in Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“The time is always right to do what is right.”

These powerful words were spoken by civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Washington, D.C.’s, National Cathedral  just four days before his assassination on April 4, 1968. Today, more than 50 years after the tragic loss of this charismatic and inspirational leader, we celebrate the ways in which he led our nation to change. We also mourn the every-day injustices that are still evident in our society, and we’re reminded that nothing changes if we don’t act.

On this 25th anniversary of the day of service celebrating Martin Luther King Jr., you can discover ways to give back to your community at the Corporation for National and Community Service web site. In the spirit of Dr. King, we encourage you to honor him on Monday, January 20th, with “a day on, not a day off.” MLK Day of Service is intended to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, create solutions to social problems, and move us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a “Beloved Community.”

For further inspiration, take some time to listen to Dr. King’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech. You are bound to feel moved, uplifted, and called to action upon listening to the great orator’s eloquent words.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service from all of us here at Burnett & Williams!
