“The time is always right to do what is right.” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., March 31, 1968
Each year, on the third Monday in January, we celebrate and honor the life and legacy of the great Dr. King with a day of service. This year, because of Covid restrictions, volunteering in your community might look a little different than it has in previous years, but don’t let that discourage you from giving back and helping make the world a better, kinder place.
In a new partnership, AmeriCorps is collaborating with the Presidential Inaugural Committee to coordinate and organize events for the MLK National Day of Service. There are virtual as well as in-person events on the calendar, and you can browse the website to find a service opportunity that speaks to you. From food drives to outdoor cleanups to collection of warm blankets and clothing for the homeless, Americorps and the Presidential Inaugural Committee together are making it easier than ever to give your time and energy to good causes.
This year has been tough on all of us, but it has opened up possibilities for stepping up and caring about our neighbors in new and different ways. Through our Ampersand Food Pantry Project, we’ve found meaning and joy in serving those in need around us. At Burnett & Williams we believe deeply in giving back to our community, and we applaud all of our friends and neighbors who donate their time and energy to volunteer work. Happy Martin Luther King, Jr., National Day of Service to all!
