Leesburg Says Goodbye to Town Manager John Wells

Leesburg Town Manager John Wells formally retired on October 3rd, an event marked by two farewell functions honoring Wells’ sustained commitment to the town.

The events were attended by community representatives and co-workers, gatherings that reflected the tremendous respect and affection that became synonymous with Wells’ tenure.

Wells served as town manager for the past 10 years after working as a senior administrator for Loudoun County government for two decades. Kaj Dentler, who served as deputy town manger, took over the town’s top job.

During a public reception at Town Hall Friday night and a dinner celebration Saturday, Wells was recognized for his abilities as a problem-solver, talent as a fiscal manager and aptitude as a listener.

At the Friday reception, Circuit Court Clerk Gary Clemons’ comments focused on Wells’ abilities as a collegial presence in Town Hall, noting that: “He engaged people to work together to solve problems.” Peter Burnett summed up Well’s abilities stating: “John came to town and did what he’s always done well. . . He listened.”
