For the past 12 years, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving has been referred to by the non-profit community as #GivingTuesday. It is marked as the day that kicks-off end-of-year charitable giving by corporate donors and individuals. No matter how you give, whether it is of your time, talent, or treasure, Tuesday November 28th is a day to encourage sharing your gifts with the world.

At Burnett & Williams, we’d like to encourage our friends and colleagues to join us in marking this day – and season – of philanthropy. One of the causes we have consistently supported is the multi-faceted campaign to end hunger. Right here in Virginia there are nearly a million people who don’t know where their next meal will come from. For children, it is even worse. Nearly a quarter million children are food insecure. So, in the spirit of #GivingTuesday, we encourage everyone to give to some of these organizations that are working to end hunger in our local communities:

Lord Fairfax Area Food Bank
1802 Roberts St.
Winchester, VA 22601
540-665-0770

The Central Virginia Food Bank (Feedmore Inc.)
1415 Rhoadmiller Street
Richmond, VA 23220
804.521.2500

Dulles South Food Pantry
24757 Evergreen Mills Rd.
Dulles, Virginia 20166
703.507.2795

Fredericksburg Area Food Bank
3631 Lee Hill Drive
PO Box 1006
Fredericksburg, VA 22408
540.371.7666

Another resource is the @NoHungryKidsVA campaign which works year-round to help end childhood hunger and has the help of the first lady of Virginia, Dorothy McAuliffe. They help connect children with food programs like school breakfast, summer meals, and afterschool meals.  You can also donate food to organizations like Ashburn Cares. Many faith-based and local food pantries need volunteers and donations, year-round.

Help us stamp out hunger in Virginia if you can, or find a way to share your resources with a cause that is meaningful to you on this #Giving Tuesday.
