Midlothian High School Football Goes Pink!

The Midlothian High School Football team has become one of the sharpest-looking in the Richmond area, outfitted in pink this month to help raise awareness about the risks of breast cancer.  The Beth Williams Field of Dreams foundation, chaired by attorney C. James Williams III, made a donation of pink uniform accents to the Trojans’ football program, including pink socks, laces, and wrist bands.

The items were donated in honor of Jim Williams’ late wife, Beth, who died of breast cancer in 2005 after a ten-year battle with the disease.  Before her death, Beth Williams had become a strong advocate for breast cancer awareness, sharing her story nationally as the subject of a CBS “48 Hours” program with Paula Zahn. As an avid sports mom, Beth would have loved the way sports are helping to focus attention on the illness, promoting preventative screening and helping to fund research for a cure.

For next year, and possibly for the final game of this October’s Breast Cancer Awareness month, the Field of Dreams Foundation has agreed to honor a request from enthusiastic Midlothian players for pink jerseys too, hoping the team will become the first of many high school teams in Chesterfield County and the Tri-cities area to wear them.
