March is Brain Injury Awareness Month. To raise awareness of the condition, the Brain Injury Association of America, located in Vienna, VA, shares resources and information throughout the month to help “de-stigmatize the injury, empower those who have survived, and promote the many types of supports that are available.” In 2018, the month-long theme is “Change Your Mind.”

Brain injuries happen all too frequently–it is estimated that in the U.S. alone one occurs every 9 seconds. And according to the Brain Injury Association of America there are at least 5.3 million Americans currently living with a traumatic-brain-injury-related disability. Not surprisingly, more than 14% of these injuries are caused by auto accidents. When you are in a car accident, some of the symptoms of traumatic brain injury, or TBI, may not show up right away, which is one of the reasons we encourage accident survivors to reach out to a personal injury lawyer early, especially if children are involved in the automobile accident.

Burnett & Williams has experience working with clients suffering from TBI and we understand how this diagnosis can affect individuals and families in complex and challenging ways. Our team is sensitive to all of the intricacies of helping accident survivors and their families navigate a complex insurance system, medical bills, lost wages, and the possibility of claiming other compensatory damages.
